Gliding

Gliding is one of the most important activities for "Air Minded Youth". Cadets will be able to go gliding quite frequently and are able to reach very high standards.

Senior cadets are even able to work towards instructor status and it is not uncommon for these cadets to take younger cadets for their early gliding lessons.

Gliding Induction Course
It may be your first experience of flying in the cockpit of a small aircraft, and you may be both excited and nervous. The flight will usually last between twenty and thirty minutes, and the aim is to give you an experience of flying and give you an insight into what you will be expected to do on a Gliding Scholarship later in your cadet life.
Gliding Scholarships

A Gliding Scholarship course is an opportunity for ATC or CCF (RAF) cadets to undergo further training and achieve Gliding Scholarship Wings. The course consists of up 8 hours in a Vigilant to achieve GS wings. Cadets showing the necessary aptitude are invited to progress onto the 'solo' standard and achieve the GS Solo Wings.

Gliding Instructors

Training is available to suitable cadets and staff to instructor standard, for those wanting to take their flying closer to a professional career, this is a great way to start. Persons appointed to a VGS, including flight staff cadets, are known as ‘U/T Instructors’ until a Qualified Gliding Instructor (QGI) category has been awarded.  The U/T instructors are split into the following designations:
