In addition to the Cadets rank structure outlined on the previous pages, there are currently four levels of academic qualifications for the Cadets:

Cadet Training Overview

The ACO (Air Cadet Organisation) Training Syllabus is slightly different between the ATC and Combined Cadet Force (RAF), however, both cover similar aspects.

Wing Cadet Training Courses

Cadet Induction Course
This course offers newly joined Cadets the opportunity to complete enough training to undergo Air Experience Flying by completing the required module, along with the experience of living
Junior NCO Course

This course offers cadets and newly appointed Cadet JNCO’s a range of training and assessment in fundamental, typical Junior NCO tasks.

Senior NCO Course
This course is intended to take the training provided on the JNCO course, and build further. The Finale to this course, is the candidates staging a FULL ceremonial parade, as parade executives, with the Wing Banner on Parade.
Drill Instructor Course

 This course is aimed at Cadet NCO’s who have good practical ability to perform drill, and teach them how to Teach Drill to Cadets.  

Ceremonial Drill Course

 This course is intended to teach the students how to parade their own Squadron Banner correctly*, including uncasing and re-casing it.

Initial Leadership Course

This course aims to teach the skills of Leadership and Team Working. The course is accredited for cadets who are or intend to study for the BTEC award in Public Services (Teamwork module).

Instructor Cadet Course
 Instructor Cadets NEED to be given this course within 12 months of appointment..
Corps of Drums Induction Course

This course offers Cadets the opportunity to learn to play an instrument in a Corps of Drums. No musical experience is required ,

Youth First Aid

 Cadets are trained to the standard demanded to allow them to wear the Red first Aid Badge 

Radio Courses

Devon & Somerset Wing run four Radio courses 

Fieldcraft Instructional Techniques

In accordance with ACP 16, Fieldcraft lessons are to be taught by an Authorised Instructor (AI) This course is open to adult staff and instructor cadets who wish to teach Fieldcraft at their squadrons and / or on Fieldcraft exercises.

L98A2 WHT Training (Residential)

Cadets need to pass this training (and re-qualify 6months thereafter) to be qualified to live fire the L98 5.56mm weapon
